LAP Level 0 · Survival
Stabilize Before You Optimize
“What needs to become safe or stable enough for me to begin climbing?”
When life is in crisis, the first task is not peak performance. Reduce immediate danger, meet basic needs, accept support, and focus on the next stabilizing step.

The Next Safe Step
“What is the next action that makes the next 24 hours safer or more stable?”
Action steps
- Identify immediate threats to safety or stability.
- Identify one safe person or support resource.
- Prioritize sleep, food, hydration, prescribed care, and basic routines where possible.
- Reduce avoidable chaos and delay major irreversible decisions while severely dysregulated when possible.
- Write a simple “When I am overwhelmed” plan.
- Focus on what needs to happen in the next 24 hours rather than solving the next five years.
Evidence of integration
You can recognize when you are in crisis, accept appropriate help, protect basic needs, and choose stabilizing actions instead of unnecessarily deepening the crisis.
Learning
I understand what this level asks of me.
Practicing
I deliberately repeat the skill, especially when it is difficult.
Integrated
The skill is established enough that I can usually carry it into harder terrain and return to it after disruption.
